Agenda and Activities for October 8th and 9th

1.) Class Opener:
Copy the following poem into your notebook.  Make sure to include the title and author.

"DREAMS"
by Langston Hughes


Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams.

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

2.) Listen to the poem being read. A Reading of "Dreams" by Langston Hughes 

3.) Underline the examples of figurative language.

4.) Annotate your poem by naming the type of figurative language being used.

5.) Answer the following questions in your notebook:
        a.) What do you think the author's purpose was in writing the poem? 
                   "Dreams" analysis


        b.)What types of figurative language are being used by the author?


        c.) What is the literal meaning of the lines?
